Twin Cities Road Motorist Hits Tree in Single-Vehicle Crash
A single-vehicle crash occurred in South Natomas on October 16, resulting in a major injury when the driver hit a tree. The accident happened around 9:41 p.m. on westbound Twin Cities Road at River Road, according to the report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Traffic remained unaffected by the accident. Two medics were called to the scene to examine the driver’s injuries. A fire chief on the scene advised that the accident may have involved impaired driving. The collision is being investigated by the CHP to find out how it happened.
Why a Single-Vehicle Crash Occurs
Accidents involving a single-vehicle are common and can cause injuries and fatalities. Some of the most common reasons for a single-vehicle crash include:
- An animal, person, or object is in the roadway: When a driver suddenly comes upon something in the roadway that shouldn’t be there, they automatically swerve to avoid striking it, which causes the motorist to crash.
- Distracted driving: A driver who is distracted by chatting on the phone, texting, or performing another activity takes their focus and eyes off the roadway for a few seconds. That’s long enough to cause a single-vehicle crash.
- Defective auto part: Bad brakes, defective tires, and other problems with the vehicle can lead to a single-vehicle crash. This is one of the reasons it is important to retain a vehicle following an injury accident. In this way, the vehicle can be examined to determine if a defect led to the accident. When it did, the manufacturer can be held responsible by filing an auto product liability claim.
- Road damage or neglect: When there are potholes, uneven pavement, and debris in the roadway, it can lead to a single-vehicle crash. Other problems that cause accidents include poor lighting, missing or misplaced signage, weakened guardrails, and others. When a government entity is to blame for an accident injury, they may be held liable. Because the time to file a claim against a government entity is much different than other personal injuries, and the time to file is shorter, consulting with an injury lawyer might be helpful. This can ensure that the statute of limitations hasn’t run out.
- Drunk driving: Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is a common cause of accidents. Because the motorist is incapable of safely handling a vehicle, they can become involved in a crash.
Compensation Following a Single-Vehicle Crash
The above are just a few of the reasons for a single-vehicle crash. However, when an injured driver knows that their accident was caused by something other than their own error, they may be able to place a claim for compensation. An injury lawyer can conduct an investigation into the cause of a crash and collect the evidence needed to support a client’s claim for compensation. Some of the damages that can be recovered include:
- All medical expenses associated with the accident may be recovered from the ambulance fee and hospitalization to prescriptions, surgeries, and the cost of rehabilitation.
- Lost wages are recoverable, which include bonuses and other benefits of the job.
- Pain and suffering can be recovered, which includes not only physical trauma but emotional and psychological harm.
