One Injured in Nevada City Pedestrian Accident
On Sunday, December 29, 2019, a Nevada City pedestrian accident left one person with serious injuries. According to police, the accident happened off of Highway 49 and involved only one vehicle and a pedestrian. The injured individual has been identified as a 70-year-old man from Grass Valley, and hospital officials have reported that he is expected to recover from his major injuries.
Crash Details
The accident happened just outside of the Willo Steak House about one mile east of Nevada City. The 70-year-old man was reportedly leaving the restaurant and crossing Newtown Road when the incident occurred. At the same time, a 52-year-old Nevada City man driving a white GMC pickup was traveling at around 40 miles per hour on Highway 49. The GMC performed a left-hand turn in order to enter Newtown road and collided with the pedestrian.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after police were notified about the accident. Upon arrival, they found that the pedestrian suffered major trauma and had him rushed to a hospital via ground ambulance. The pickup driver was reportedly uninjured during the incident and remained at the scene.
Pedestrian Injuries
Pedestrians don’t have the protections that vehicle drivers and passengers have. Because they aren’t protected by steel walls, airbags, seatbelts, and other safety features, pedestrians often suffer severe trauma even in relatively low-speed accidents. Some of the common major accident injuries pedestrians are likely to receive include:
- Bone fractures
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Chest trauma
- Spinal cord injuries
- Lacerations and abrasions
- Leg injuries
These injuries can dramatically affect peoples’ lives, and survivors often require extensive hospital stays, physical therapy, and medication use in order to regain their health. In many cases, injured pedestrians are left with trauma that affects them for the rest of their lives.
Another Recent Area Pedestrian Accident
This accident happened not long after another pedestrian collision in the same area. On November 10, 2019, a 49-year-old woman from Grass Valley was fatally struck by a pickup truck. This crash also happened outside of the Willo Steak House. According to reports, no criminal charges were filed after the collision.
Calling An Attorney
Paying for hospital bills and other medical costs after suffering accident injuries can leave people feeling overwhelmed. Not only are medical costs often very expensive, but being injured can also make it difficult to continue working your job, leaving you and your family without an important source of income. In order to pay for these losses, injured parties are often able to claim money from negligent parties by filing a personal injury claim.
Payments from injury claims can help people cover their medical expenses, lost income, and property damage, as well as provide compensation for their personal suffering. However, the payments available through injury claims vary depending on your specific case, and it’s best to have the support of an experienced attorney before taking any legal action.
