The patient was transported to a hospital for medical care. According to the report, the vehicle that struck him was going at a low speed, and the rider was not using a helmet. Authorities are conducting an investigation and determining fault in the injury accident.

Higher Risk Areas for a North Highlands Bicycle Crash

Bicycle crashes, whether in the North Highlands or elsewhere, are influenced by several risk factors. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, these include:

  • Age: Bicycle riders aged 50 to 59 have the highest risk of fatal accidents, possibly due to the increasing number of older individuals taking up cycling for exercise or family activities.
  • Gender: Male cyclists are six times more likely to die and four times more likely to be injured in bicycle crashes compared to female cyclists.
  • Children and teens: Over one-third of all bicyclist injuries involve children and teenagers.
  • Urban areas: Bicycle accidents are more common in urban settings compared to rural areas.
  • Alcohol impairment: In 37 percent of bicycle crashes, either the cyclist or the motorist involved was impaired by alcohol.

Motorist Negligence in Bicycle Crashes

Motorist errors account for 95 percent of all traffic accidents, often leading to collisions with cyclists. Common forms of negligent driving include:

  • Violating the distance law: In California, drivers are required to maintain a three-foot distance from cyclists. Failure to comply, resulting in an accident, is deemed negligent.
  • Speeding is the leading cause of traffic collisions. It reduces a driver’s ability to notice cyclists and lengthens stopping distances in emergencies.
  • Distracted driving: Activities like texting, talking on a cell phone, eating, changing radio stations, or using GPS are major contributors to traffic accidents.
  • Driver fatigue: Drivers who work shifts, lack sleep, or suffer from sleep disorders like sleep apnea are at a higher risk of colliding with cyclists.

Compensation Recovery Following a North Highlands Bicycle Crash

If a motorist was negligent and caused an injury accident involving a bicyclist, the rider has the right to recover compensation. When the injured party recovers compensation, it includes all of their medical bills caused by the accident, from the ambulance to hospitalization and rehabilitation. If the individual had a job, their lost wages and benefits are recoverable. In addition, they can recover compensation for their physical and emotional suffering with the help of an accident lawyer.
