Oakley Car Accident Hospitalizes Pedestrian
Oakley Car Accident Hospitalizes Pedestrian. One female pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle in Oakley on the morning of Wednesday, September 5, 2018. The accident appears to have been caused by a driver who lost control of the car after being cut off by another vehicle. Medical personnel that arrived at the scene of the incident decided that the woman needed to be airlifted to a hospital for treatment. The local police department is still investigating the accident.
Pedestrian Accident Details
Oakley Police and East Contra Costa Fire Department responded to the accident at 9:47 a.m. The pedestrian was walking by the intersection of Gateway Drive and Empire Avenue in Oakley when the car crash occurred. Preliminary information suggests that the car involved was going roughly 30 mph when the driver hit the pedestrian after swerving into the median strip. The driver had been cut off by another vehicle before swerving outside the traffic lanes. The car was initially traveling in the northbound lanes but, as a result of hopping the median, came to a stop in the southbound lanes.
Engine 53 came to the scene to discover the injured woman lying on the ground. They evaluated her injuries and requested a medical helicopter to transfer the patient to a nearby medical center. The helicopter landed in Crockett Park which is directly adjacent to the collision site.
American Medical Response (AMR) and firefighters collaboratively assessed the pedestrian’s injuries, and then AMR transported the woman to the designated helicopter landing spot. She was airlifted via CALSTAR to an undisclosed hospital. No update is currently available on her condition. Oakley Police did temporarily close lanes in both directions of Empire Avenue to investigate the collision.
