One Critically Hurt in Chico Cycling Accident
On Friday, July 17, 2020, one person suffered severe injuries during a Chico cycling accident. Chico Police Department (CPD) officials reported that the accident involved a cyclist as well as one passenger vehicle and that officers are still investigating what factors could have been involved. The latest available information from medical officials indicated that the cyclist was still in critical condition.
Crash Information
The accident occurred at about 5:37 a.m. on the eastbound side of Ninth Street at the intersection of Oroville Avenue in the southern downtown area of Chico. CPD reports that the cyclist was heading south on Oroville Avenue when he was struck by an eastbound motorist on Ninth Street. Further details about the circumstances of this incident remain unavailable.
Response
Emergency accident response personnel were sent to the scene right away after officials were notified about the crash. Medical responders reported that the cyclist did not appear to have any injuries, but was taken to the Enloe Medical Center as a precaution. At the hospital, scans showed that the cyclist had suffered internal lacerations, and his condition gradually worsened. The driver of the vehicle was reportedly not injured as a result of this accident.
Investigation
Broadway and Ninth Street were both blocked to traffic while police, firefighters, and ambulance personnel responded to the accident. The area remained shut down while officers conducted a preliminary investigation. CPD stated that at 7:30 a.m., nearly two hours after the crash took place, the Major Accident Investigation Team was called to the accident site to conduct further investigations. Officers have indicated that they do not suspect driver intoxication as a factor.
Bicyclist collisions are common and happen due to a number of common factors. Importantly, many of these causes are things neither cyclists nor motorists have any ability to control like a malfunctioning bike or vehicle part or a serious issue with the pavement.
Calling an Attorney
The period of time directly following a major car accident can be very stressful for survivors and their families. The anxiety, pain, and uncertainty can be overwhelming, and many people feel shocked and unsure of what to do.
During this time, it’s very important to reach out to a trusted Chico personal injury lawyer. Usually, at-fault parties get to work right away in order to try and mitigate their responsibility for the accident in the eyes of courts and insurance adjusters. The sooner that your lawyer can begin investigating the incident and preparing your case, the more effectively they can help you hold at-fault parties financially responsible for the damages they’ve caused.
Recoverable Damages
Accident survivors often face a number of serious financial problems related to their injuries. Thankfully, the large majority of these damages can be sought through injury claims. Recoverable damages in a personal injury claim include lost income and/or earning potential, medical bills, personal suffering, property damage, and more. The best way to learn what payments may be available in your case specifically is to have a one-on-one conversation with an expert lawyer.
