One Killed in Dixon Car Accident
An elderly man tragically lost his life during a Dixon car accident that took place on Thursday, April 30, 2020. The decedent has been identified by the Solano County Sheriff’s Office as Floyd Merchant, a 79-year-old man from Sacramento. In addition to the decedent, two other people were left with serious injuries. California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reportedly placed the involved driver under arrest on charges related to driving under the influence of intoxicants.
Crash Details
The accident happened on Highway Interstate 80 at around 3:04 p.m. A 56-year-old woman was driving a white 1997 Toyota sedan east on the highway and had just passed the exit for Pitt School Road when her vehicle suddenly veered. The Toyota drove off the southern edge of the highway and eventually crashed into a tree, continued a short distance, and struck a nearby building.
As responders reached the site of the collision, they found that all three vehicle occupants were seriously hurt. Sadly, Merchant was pronounced deceased on-site. The rear-seat passenger, who has not been identified, was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. After being placed under arrest, the driver was also hospitalized. Updates on their conditions have not been reported.
Investigation
The right-most lane of eastbound I-80 was closed off for over an hour while officers investigated the roadway and vehicle wreckage at the crash site. Reportedly, CHP investigation into this accident is ongoing. CHP has urged anybody driving in the area at the time of the accident to get in touch with the Solano County office by calling (707) 428-2100.
