One Loses Life After Woodland Pedestrian Collision

On Friday, February 19, 2021, one person tragically passed away after being involved in a Woodland pedestrian collision. The collision reportedly happened on a local highway at night, and it involved a single car in addition to the pedestrian. The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office is currently withholding the identity of the decedent while in the process of notifying their family. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash remains under investigation at this time.

Crash Details

The collision happened at about 11:20 p.m. on Highway Interstate 5. CHP states that a pedestrian was traveling across the highway when they entered the path of a vehicle. The car struck the pedestrian head-on close to East Street and subsequently pulled over. Further information about the incident has not been made available.

Following the accident, CHP received notification via phone call and dispatched response personnel to the area. Upon reaching the area, officers discovered the pedestrian was critically injured and called for an ambulance. According to reports, the pedestrian tragically passed away from their injuries sometime after the accident. However, police did not indicate whether or not the individual was checked into a hospital prior to passing.

Investigation

Investigators with CHP Traffic division have indicated that the involved driver remained at the collision scene and cooperated with officers. So far, police have only indicated that they do not believe either party was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident and have not mentioned any possible causes.

Often, pedestrian-involved car crashes involve more than one major causal factor, and, importantly, many of these factors cannot be controlled by the pedestrian or driver. For example, collisions often happen because of issues with dangerously designed roads without proper pedestrian infrastructure or may happen due to a defective car part that leaves the driver unable to avoid a crash. When this happens, third-parties can frequently be held liable for collision damages.

Private Investigations are Critical

After a fatal accident, police are presented with a major challenge. Without access to the decedent’s testimony, investigators may never fully understand what took place. Sadly, this is can mean that important evidence will not ever be uncovered, possibly leaving families without the ability to obtain compensation. For this reason, families should always call a Woodland wrongful death lawyer and ask about a private accident investigation. If a lawyer takes on your case, they can use their resources and experience to conduct a full-scale investigation on their own while prioritizing your family’s rights.

If you’ve suddenly lost a loved one, you may feel overwhelmed, and finding a lawyer who you know you can trust with such an important case might feel like just more stress. However, having a lawyer on your side early on can make a critical difference.
