Motorcyclist Killed in Highway 4 Accident
A motorcyclist that rear-ended a vehicle on Highway 4 died after he was ejected from his motor vehicle, said the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The crash happened in the westbound lanes of Highway 4 around 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2019. The deceased motorcyclist has been identified as James Woods, a 61-year old Antioch resident.
Accident Details
According to CHP officials, the motorcyclist crashed into the rear end of a Toyota Camry just east of the Loveridge Road exit. The CHP said the impact ejected the male from his bike and onto the highway roads where he was then struck by a big rig. Authorities declared his death at the scene of the crash. The drivers of the big rig and Toyota both stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities. The accident is currently being investigated by the agency. There has not been a conclusion on whether drugs or alcohol was involved in this tragic collision.
A massive traffic jam backed up the highway and the side roads after authorities had closed off four of the five lanes for investigation. Traffic was so congested that it could be seen backing up into Brentwood. The lanes were opened up at roughly 10:00 a.m.
How to Prove Fault in Chain Reaction Accidents
Below is just a handful of the techniques that an experienced and reasonable attorney would go through to determine fault in a chain reaction accident:
- Checking police statements of the accident along with any citations issued against a motorist.
- Collecting contact information of witnesses and scheduling appointments to meet with them for their side of the story.
- Observing any physical damage that was sustained by all vehicles involved.
- Finding surveillance cameras from local small businesses that may have recorded the collision.
- Looking at any photographic evidence of the aftermath of the accident.
Determining Liability in a Fatal Motorcycle Collision
A seasoned injury lawyer has many investigative techniques to get as much information as possible before concluding what happened at the time of the motorcycle accident. This is one of the main reasons why the lawyer will go to the site of the collision. From there, the attorney can try to locate more witnesses. The lawyer will also be aware of looking out for any skid marks that could measure the distance of the crash from where it began and ended.
