Man Killed in Chico Car Crash
Police reported a fatal car accident in Chico on Friday, May 3, 2019. The collision left one person with fatal injuries. Additionally, two other suffered non-fatal injuries. The decedent has not been publicly identified by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, who is in the process of notifying the individual’s next-of-kin. According to reports from California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident involved a semi-truck and an SUV. I would like to extend my sympathies to those who have suffered the loss of a loved one due to this accident.
Crash Information
CHP reports indicate that the accident happened at 4:11 p.m. on the northbound side of Highway 99. A semi-truck collided with a Hyundai Santa Fe close to the intersection of Eaton Road in the central area of Chico. The semi-truck had been stopped on the highway when the Hyundai, for unknown reasons, crashed into its rear-end. Photos of the accident scene show extreme damage to the front end of the SUV.
Response
Response officials arriving at the crash location discovered that the female passenger of the SUV had suffered severe trauma. Despite best efforts from medical personnel, the woman tragically passed away on-site. Responders found two more individuals with injuries. However, whether or not either of these individuals was hospitalized has not yet been reported.
Investigation
Officers of CHP are investigating the accident to determine what factors caused it to take place. So far, there have been no suspected crash factors reported. Common fatal accident factors include driving while under the influence, auto product malfunctions, hazardous roads, reckless motorists, and more.
