What We Know
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a motorcyclist died on Wednesday night on Olive Highway. The accident occurred around 8:45pm between Arbol Avenue and Gold Country Casino. The rider was a 48-year-old man from Oroville.
What Happened?
The CHP said that the motorcyclist crossed the double yellow lines on Olive Highway and drove right into the path of oncoming traffic. The motorcycle collided with a Ford vehicle that was being driven by 70-year-old Sharon Cherry, also of Oroville. Cherry was traveling westbound on Olive Highway at the time of the accident. The rider was thrown from his 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle and came to a rest on the south side of the highway.
Injuries Suffered
Cherry suffered hand and facial lacerations described as minor as well as pain in her right shoulder. She was taken to Oroville Hospital for treatment. The motorcycle rider was administered CPR by the first responding officers from the CHP. He was pronounced dead at the scene from his traumatic injuries by Butte County EMS paramedics upon their arrival.
The Investigation
The accident remains under investigation by the CHP, which said that they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved. The road was closed until roughly 11pm the night of the crash. The CHP is asking anyone who has information regarding the crash to contact them at their Oroville station. While officers investigated the crash, traffic was diverted Oro Quincy Highway in the westbound direction and to Arbol Avenue in the eastbound direction.
