Alleged DUI in Redding Causes Fatal Trauma
On Friday, February 14, 2020, one person tragically lost their life due to injuries sustained in an alleged DUI in Redding. California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reported that the crash involved three vehicles, including a big-rig and that one person has been placed under arrest for DUI charges related to the incident. The decedent has not yet been identified by officials. However, police indicated that he was a 20-year-old man. In addition to the decedent, two other people suffered major trauma as a result of the accident.
Crash Details
The accident occurred on the southbound side of Highway Interstate 5 just north of the junction at Lake Boulevard at around 1:00 a.m. CHP stated that a 22-year-old woman from Anderson had been driving a Honda Civic southbound on the highway when her vehicle rear-ended a 2006 BMW sedan. The force of the collision reportedly caused the BMW to overturn. Shortly after the initial crash, a Peterbilt semi-truck collided with the overturned BMW.
Response
Emergency personnel were immediately dispatched to the crash scene after CHP was notified. When they reached the site, responders discovered that the BMW driver was seriously injured. The young man was sadly pronounced deceased on-scene.
The driver of the Honda Civic was reportedly found with major injuries. Police placed her under arrest for felony counts of DUI and manslaughter before releasing her into hospital custody. A passenger in the big-rig was also found with major injuries and sent to a nearby hospital for care while the driver was reportedly not injured. Updates on the conditions of the injured parties have not been released.
