One Woman Dies in Rural Woodland Crash

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials reported that one woman passed away during a local car accident on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. The collision involved two vehicles and took place on a rural road just outside of Woodland. Reports indicated that two more individuals suffered injuries during the accident, one of whom sustained critical trauma. Two days after the accident took place, Yolo County authorities identified the fatally injured woman as Ruth Moeller, a 91-year-old resident of Woodland. I wish to send my condolences to Ms. Moeller’s loved ones after they’ve suffered such a terrible loss.

Crash Information

According to police, the collision took place at around 11:25 a.m. Moeller had been driving a Honda Accord east on County Road 27 south of woodland near the small community of Merrit. While Moeller was driving through the intersection at County Road 102, her vehicle was broadsided by a northbound Ford 4250 pickup truck. The accident reportedly caused severe damage to the Honda.

Response

After CHP received notification of the accident, they immediately sent emergency staff to the scene of the accident. When responders got to the crash site, they found that both occupants of the Honda had been seriously injured. Both individuals, including Ms. Moeller and her husband, were rushed to a hospital in Vacaville to receive emergency care. Tragically, Ms. Moeller’s injuries were too great and she passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital. According to medical staff, her 94-year-old husband is still in the hospital and remains in critical condition.

The Ford driver, identified as a 58-year-old man from El Macero, was discovered with minor injuries. Whether or not the man received medical attention for his injuries was not reported. No further individuals were injured as a result of this accident.

Investigation

CHP reports that they are investigating this accident in order to determine what factors were involved. Investigators say that they do not consider driving under the influence to have played a part in this collision. One CHP report indicated that the collision was partly caused by the Honda’s failure to “properly clear the intersection.” Collisions such as this one are often caused by multiple factors. Common factors involve roadway hazards, medical emergencies, defective auto parts, distracted driving, and more.

Wrongful Death Damages

Fatal accidents are tragic and families are often left emotionally devastated after learning that their loved ones have passed away in a collision. While the care and love of a family member can’t ever be truly replaced, those who’ve lost loved ones in accidents can often claim compensation for their financial and personal damages. By filing wrongful death claims, families can recover the payments they need for burial and funeral expenses, hospital bills, and other losses related to the collision.
