Oroville Motorcyclist Fatally Injured in Crash

An Oroville motorcyclist lost his life during a vehicle accident that took place on Thursday, September 12, 2019. California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that this collision happened in the small community of Thermalito in Butte County. The decedent has so far only been identified as a 27-year-old Oroville man, and Butte County Sheriff’s Department officials say they will release his full identity after his family is notified. The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.

Collision Information

CHP’s reports state that the crash happened at night on 18th Street, a short distance to the south of the intersection at Biggs Avenue. Officers said that a man riding a 2006 Suzuki GSXR-1000 heading south on 18th entered a curve and apparently lost control of his motorcycle. The vehicle drove off of the roadway and up a nearby embankment before striking a chain-link fence and a tree.

Common Causes of Motorcycle Accidents

Collisions like this one can be caused by many different factors, many of which are outside of the control of motorcyclists. Often, an accident happens because a vital part of the motorcycle fails to work properly. This could mean failing brakes, weak tires, faulty accelerators, and more. Accidents are also commonly caused by defective roadways with large potholes, inadequate lighting, or missing signage.

In both of these cases, families are able to pursue wrongful death claims in order to recover payments for the damages that they have suffered. Depending on what caused the accident, parties such as vehicle product manufacturers, municipal or state governments, insurance companies, or others may be liable to pay for things like medical costs related to the crash, emotional trauma, lost household income and/or services, and more. These payments are meant to help families have financial stability during a difficult time.

Do I Need To Call a Lawyer Right Away?

The grief that people experience after a fatal crash can feel overwhelming, and it’s common for people to take time away from their responsibilities in order to focus on healing and coping with their emotions. However, negligent parties usually don’t deal with the same issues and start building up a legal defense right away. For this reason, it is important to get in touch with an attorney who can investigate the accident and give police and insurers the version of events that the fatally injured drivers were unable to report. Your attorney will be able to keep liable parties from covering up evidence and disclaiming responsibility for the damages they caused
