Woman Dies After Being Hit by a Car That Jumped the Curb

On December 19, an out-of-control car jumped a curb in Sacramento, which seriously injured a woman sleeping on a bench at a bus shelter, who later died from her injuries. The accident happened along Truxel Road at West El Camino Avenue around 10:51 p.m. The accident is under investigation by major collision detectives with the Sacramento Police Department.

Additional Information About the Out-of-Control Car Accident

According to the accident report, the woman who was struck by a gray sedan that jumped the curb died in the ambulance and was revived by medics with the Sacramento Fire Department. Unfortunately, we are sorry to report that the injured pedestrian passed away later at the hospital due to the out-of-control car. No information was given on whether the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody or what caused the collision. It is still under investigation.

Losing a Loved One Due to a Negligent Act

Families find it difficult to reconcile the death of a loved one with the heinous act of a negligent driver and an out-of-control car. Despite the reason why the driver struck a pedestrian, there is no excuse for the lack of care the motorist exhibited. Family members are often consumed by grief and sometimes anger at the catastrophe they are facing.

They look to friends, medical professionals, clergy, and other family members to help them through this difficult period. There are things that can be done to help ease their emotional stress. The following are all good examples:

  • Call the family members and let them know that you are thinking about them and share in their grief.
  • Prepare meals for the family since they more than likely are too busy to do it for themselves.
  • Offer to help family members with household tasks. These range from walking the dog and taking children to and from school to mowing the lawn.
  • Accompany the aggrieved to the funeral parlor if they wish. This is a very stressful time for them, and your presence might be appreciated.
  • Keep in touch after the funeral and burial has concluded. It is important to do this since family members more than likely need you more than ever.

Placing a Wrongful Death Claim

Right after a loved one’s wrongful death, placing a claim is probably furthest from the family’s mind. It is true it won’t bring back their loved one lost due to an out-of-control car or help eradicate the grief they feel. However, it will help keep them from financial difficulty, especially if the deceased supported the family. There are many other things the decedent might have done around the home, such as paying bills, mowing the lawn, repairing broken household items, and providing childcare. Since all of these efforts must be relegated to a handyman, babysitter, or others, the cost of living day-to-day can easily increase.

Investigating a Wrongful Death Accident

At our firm, we understand the grief and emotional turmoil family members feel after a loved one dies due to negligence or an intentional act. We do everything we can to help the family move forward financially as they deal with a loved one’s untimely demise.

We send our investigative team to the accident scene to look for clues as to why the incident occurred. If a vehicle failed to stop prior to a collision with a pedestrian, we examine the roadways for skidmarks, which indicate the driver tried to bring his/her vehicle to a halt. Without skidmarks, questions of drunk driving come into play.

We obtain video footage of the accident, interview witnesses and review police reports for mistakes and perform accident reconstruction. Once this is done, we pass it on to our injury attorneys, who use it to build a strong case for our client.
