Critical Injuries Result From Modesto Gas Station Crash
An out-of-control vehicle in Modesto on November 14 crashed into a gas pump at a local convenience store, injuring two people, one critically. The collision occurred at the Oakdale Road intersection with Sylvan Avenue at the Stop n’ Save Liquors and Groceries, according to a representative of the Modesto Police Department. Officers, medics, and firefighters responded to the report about the crash at around 1:30 in the morning.
Details of the Crash Involving the Out-of-Control Vehicle
According to the report by the crash investigators, the driver was going west along Sylvan Avenue near the intersection when his vehicle veered to the right, struck the median and base of a traffic signal before hitting a gas pump, which was knocked down off its foundation. The car pinned a customer against the wall. Although the driver, identified as a 33-year-old Modesto man, was pinned inside his vehicle, which required extrication by firefighters, he suffered only minor injuries.
Employees React Quickly to Car Collision
An employee at the store reported that the flames were spotted on the vehicle’s undercarriage when it finally stopped on its side. Another worker at the store used a fire extinguisher to put the flames out, while Valentine notified 911 and shut the gas pumps down. He said the vehicle was moving pretty fast when the collision occurred.
Pedestrian Outside the Store Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries
A pedestrian who happened to be standing outside the building was struck by the vehicle and suffered injuries described as life-threatening. A witness to the accident said that person was a regular customer in the store. When the out-of-control vehicle overturned, the customer was pinned against the wall of the building.
Vehicle Driver Arrested
The driver of the out-of-control vehicle was placed under arrest and is suspected by police as having been under the influence of alcohol or drugs when the accident occurred. He was taken to a hospital first to receive medical treatment for his injuries.
Obtain the Compensation You Deserve
When you’ve been injured in an accident caused by a negligent driver, an injury lawyer can help you get the compensation you deserve to cover the cost of your medical expenses, lost wages, and for your pain and suffering. Over the years, we’ve successfully helped many Northern Californians in obtaining compensation, which is especially important when serious injuries are involved. Recovery of damages by filing a claim include:
- Medical expenses: All of the medical expenses associated with the accident can be recovered, which include the ambulance bill, hospitalization, tests, physicians’ bills, surgeries, and physical therapy afterward. You may also recover the cost of your out-of-pocket expenses, such as the gas and parking fees to go on an office visit to your doctor.
- Lost wages: Wages that are lost from the inability to work can be recovered, including any bonuses, insurance coverage, retirement funds, etc. If the injured party is self-employed, tax returns and receipts can be used to establish income. Should the injury continue into the future, that can be factored into the settlement.
- Pain and suffering: Pain and suffering include more than just physical trauma. Many people suffer psychological and emotional trauma from an accident, such as nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety, and depression. Some end up with post-traumatic stress disorder, which requires professional treatment.
