Oxnard Motorcycle Crash
I’m Ed Smith, an Oxnard motorcycle accident attorney. A motorcycle accident on Friday, November 9 left one man with serious injuries in Oxnard.
What We Know Right Now
Officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a motorcycle accident around 7:55pm on Friday, November 9 in Oxnard. The accident occurred at the intersection of Oxnard Boulevard and Seventh Street. A 2015 Harley Davidson was traveling Northbound when it crashed into a 2003 Hyundai Sonata.
Drivers Involved
According to police, the motorcycle was being operated by a 30-year-old man whom they have yet to identify. The Sonata was being driven by a 17-year-old girl, whose identity has also not been released. The motorcycle rider is a resident of Oxnard. It is not known where the female driver resides.
What Happened?
According to witnesses who spoke with the police, the motorcycle was hit by the Sonata when the Sonata attempted to make a left turn in front of the bike at Seventh Street. Police said that the rider of the bike was thrown to the ground and suffered serious injuries in the motorcycle accident. The bike was hit a second time after the initial crash. A 2016 Chevrolet Cruze collided with the bike after it was hit by the Sonata. The other drivers (Sonata and Cruze) were not injured in the accident.
The Injuries
The injuries sustained by the motorcycle rider were described as serious. Officers said the rider was taken to the Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition due to his traumatic injuries. The motorcycle accident is still under investigation and it is not yet known if alcohol, drugs or distracted driving played a factor in the crash.
Turning Left Accidents
Turning left accidents are some of the most common and dangerous accidents involving motorcycles. These accidents can be incredibly tragic due to the nature of the speed involved and that they can cause motorcycle riders to be thrown hundreds of feet from their bikes. Here’s why turning left accidents are so common:
- Drivers of vehicles turning left aren’t looking for motorcycles in oncoming traffic
- Drivers of turning vehicles fail to look twice before turning
- Drivers are distracted
- Drivers turn left at a high rate of speed
- Drivers turning left fail to utilize their turn signal
- Motorcyclists fail to spot the turn signal on the car
- Motorcyclists fail to anticipate the actions of the other motorist
