Arcata Bay Oyster Festival
The Arcata Bay Oyster Festival takes place on Saturday, June 17, 2017, between 8th and 9th Streets and G and H streets in Arcata. This is one of our favorite Arcata community events. This festival is the area’s prized pearl of summer celebrations where lovers of food will have the opportunity to explore incredible local oysters prepared in a vast variety of ways. Those who attend will be able to drink local wine and beer, buy crafts from local artists, and dance through the day to the music of some of the area’s best musicians.
The festival will also include many other entertaining activities including the Shuck-and-Swallow contest, the Oyster Calling, and a competition in which local chefs will compete, pitting their best cooked and raw oyster recipes against each other. The festival is free to attend and will begin at 10 a.m. and continue to 5:30.

Arts! Arcata
Taking place every second Friday of every month in downtown Arts! Arcata is an event produced by the downtown community that offers residents and visitors of Arcata the chance to meet and see the work of local artists.
The event is totally free, begins at 6 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m. Attendees can walk through the downtown area and see it transformed into a lively arts district that features the work of dozens of local visual artists as well as live music being performed at multiple locations. Many locations that participate in the event keep their doors open after 9 and offer guests beer, wine, and snacks. A portion of the proceeds spent at Arts! Arcata events will go to local non-profit organizations.
Arcata Farmer’s Market
The Arcata Farmer’s Market is hosted by The North Coast Growers’ Association and is the longest-running certified farmer’s market in the state of California. The market takes place on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offers shoppers the ability to purchase fresh produce and foodstuffs from local farmers.
Those attending the Arcata Farmer’s Market will also be able to enjoy live music from local musicians as they walk through the market. Additionally, attendees will be able to purchase wares from local craftspeople at special booths set up at the market.
