Passenger Killed in Crash on Finney Road

A 25-year-old Modesto man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) and is facing other potential charges after a recent crash that killed a passenger on Finney Road in Stanislaus County. The fatal car wreck took place at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Finney Road, just south of North Avenue near the Modesto area.

Details on the Crash on Finney Road That Killed a Passenger

The California Highway Patrol described the incident as a single-vehicle collision. A Chevrolet Suburban was traveling southbound on Finney Road when the driver allegedly lost control of the SUV. CHP traffic officers reported that the Chevrolet veered off the road, crashed into a fence, struck four trees, and overturned multiple times. According to officials, it was determined that the Chevrolet driver had been driving while impaired.

One of the passengers in the SUV, a 25-year-old Salida resident, was uninjured in the crash. Sadly, the other passenger in the SUV, 24-year-old Isaiah Martinez, sustained fatal injuries. The Chevrolet driver was treated for serious injuries at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. In a recent news release, the recommended charges against the Chevrolet driver have been sent to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

What Families Should Know About Wrongful Death Car Accident Cases

Damages in a wrongful death case are intended to make surviving family members whole again. These come in two types, economic and non-economic. This may include funeral and burial costs, medical treatment for final injuries, loss of companionship, mental anguish, and more. Holding an at-fault party liable in these cases may provide survivors with a sense of justice and the financial recovery they deserve. In the case of a DUI crash, punitive damages may be sought from the drunk driver to punish them for their wrongdoing.

A wrongful death claim is always stressful and overwhelming. When you and your family are grieving, it is essential to avoid making any major choices without consulting a Modesto wrongful death lawyer. You should not agree to a recorded statement, sign any release documents, or enter a settlement in exchange for releasing a person or entity from liability. That is because the first settlement offer may be far less than what your family needs and deserves.

At our law firm, one of our skilled and compassionate accident attorneys will advise you on your potential options for recovery and your best course of action to move forward in your situation.
