Pedestrian Accident Injures Student Near Lodi

Studien Injured in Pedestrian Accident Near Lodi

A Lodi Middle School student was crossing the street in a crosswalk on the morning of Thursday, August 3, 2017. Unfortunately, the student was struck by an oncoming vehicle resulting in traumatic injuries.

We send our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery of the young boy that suffered injuries in this pedestrian accident.

What Happened?

An eighth-grade student from Lodi Middle School was being dropped off at school at approximately 8:00 am. The student proceeded to walk inside a marked crosswalk when he was hit by an oncoming motorist.

Was the Student Okay?

Reports indicated that the young boy suffered injuries described as bruises and bumps due to the pedestrian accident. Medical personnel were called to the scene. When they arrived, they located the injured boy, who was alert and cooperative. The boy was transported via ambulance to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

Preliminary Investigation

It is still too soon to know how the pedestrian accident was caused. Authorities usually take one to two weeks from the date of an incident to process a Traffic Collision Report. However, it was reported that the involved motorist allegedly told officers from the Lodi Police Department that she did not see the student. The accident remains ongoing for investigators to determine causation.

Why do Pedestrians Get Hit by Cars?

According to a 2015 report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 5,376 pedestrians passed away in accidents involving motor vehicles. Pedestrian accidents tend to occur due to the inattentiveness or negligence of a motorist. One of the most common causes of these accidents results from distracted driving habits such as texting and driving. Another common cause is drunk driving, a subcategory of reckless driving. Always look both ways before crossing a street. Wear bright-colored clothing if you take a walk during evening hours. It is best to walk in the direction facing the flow of traffic to avoid a serious collision. If you’ve been injured by a careless motorist, contact a Lodi auto accident attorney.
