Pedestrian Collision Kills Roseville Man
I’m Ed Smith, a Roseville personal injury lawyer. On Wednesday, May 31, 2017, a Roseville man lost his life after he was struck by an oncoming vehicle while crossing a crosswalk.
Accident Details
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) released a report indicating that the accident happened in North Auburn at the intersection of Bell Road and Highway 49 at 11:10 p.m. when the deceased man, a 41-year-old resident of Roseville, had been crossing the road despite not having a walk sign while the vehicle that struck the man had a green light. The vehicle, a Honda sedan, had been traveling at 45 miles an hour and the driver did not have time to slow down before striking the man head-on, according to CHP.
CHP’s report indicates that the Honda had been traveling north and the pedestrian had been walking inside of the east-west crosswalk located on the south side of the intersection. The report also indicated that the intersection had been well-lit and added that the intersection is one of the busiest intersections of the Auburn area. The CHP has reported that they do not believe that the driver had consumed alcohol before the accident. A toxicology test is planned for the pedestrian in order to determine if he was under the influence.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the pedestrian who passed away in this accident.
Emergency Response
When emergency medical officials arrived at the scene of the accident, they found that the pedestrian had sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision and pronounced him dead on-scene. The driver of the Honda was not reported to have suffered any injuries.
Pedestrian Accidents
According to research conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), pedestrian fatalities account for an average of 14 percent of all traffic fatalities, with around 4,500 pedestrian fatalities in car accidents occurring every year. Additionally, of those pedestrian fatalities, about 72 percent of them happened while it was dark outside and about 73 percent of them happened in urban environments.
Additionally, the NHTSA’s research reveals that consumption of alcohol is a factor in about 49 percent of auto accidents that caused pedestrian fatalities.
Wrongful Death
Losing somebody is an extremely difficult experience. The process of grieving takes time and can make other things feel distant. However, calling a lawyer to assist you with a wrongful death case as soon as you can is vital. Those responsible for the death of your loved one often do not have to deal with the same emotional impact and are usually quick to begin trying to disclaim responsibility for the damage they have caused.
