Pedestrian Critically Injured in Eureka Uber Accident
A car accident that took place in Eureka on Monday, April 22, 2019, left a pedestrian with major injuries. Family members of the injured individual told reporters that he is a local 27-year-old. The injured man is reportedly still in the hospital in critical condition after he was struck by an Uber driver on the northern side of the city. I would like to send my sympathy and support out to the injured pedestrian and his loved ones during this stressful time.
Crash Information
Officers of the Eureka Police Department (EPD) reported that an Uber driver had been traveling south on Myrtle Avenue and was going with the flow of traffic. Dashcam footage from the front of the vehicle shows that the pedestrian ran into the roadway. After the pedestrian entered the road, he was struck by the oncoming vehicle. The Uber driver immediately pulled over and joined accident witnesses in assisting the injured pedestrian.
Responders were immediately called to the crash site. When they arrived, they found the pedestrian had suffered major injuries. Medical officials later reported that the man suffered a broken ankle, shoulder, and fractured skull. According to information from his family, the pedestrian remains in hospital care due to suffering swelling and hemorrhage on the left side of his brain.
Investigation
Officers of EPD have said that they are actively investigating this incident. However, police have said that the Uber driver is not currently facing any criminal charges related to the collision. Pedestrian accidents are liable to cause traumatic injuries, even at low speeds. Because pedestrians are some of the most vulnerable people on the road, serious accidents can happen for a number of reasons. Accidents involving pedestrians are frequently caused by factors such as medical issues, auto product defects, poor roadway design, and more.
Head Injuries
Recovering from a head injury can be very difficult and people are often faced with a number of serious concerns. Brain injuries can cause a wide variety of symptoms including issues with mobility and cognition. In some cases, these injuries can be treated and crash survivors can fully recover. However, brain injuries can also cause chronic or permanent issues that drastically change the lives of survivors and their families.
Those who’ve suffered a head injury are also often left in a financially difficult situation. Not only do survivors need to pay for medical expenses like surgeries, hospital stays, medications, and therapy, but suffering a head injury often also leaves people unable to continue working. These issues can leave people unsure of how they will be able to pay for necessary expenses.
Calling an Attorney
After an accident, people can be left in a state of shock and confusion. Worries about the health of your loved one can feel overwhelming. While it is crucial to take time to be with your loved one during this time, it’s also important to speak with a lawyer as soon as possible. While not every case requires help from an attorney, getting free advice from an experienced Eureka personal injury lawyer can help you know what steps you can take to recover for the losses your family has suffered.
