Pedestrian Death Caused by Hit and Run Driver
A pedestrian death was reported on July 3 after a body was discovered along Roseville Road near Connie Drive shortly after 5:00 in the afternoon. When officers with the Sacramento Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered that the Sacramento Fire Department was there and had found the body of the pedestrian lying in an open area. Crime Scene Investigators arrived to take charge of the investigation into what is believed to be a pedestrian death caused by a hit and run. The area was searched for evidence and to see if there were any witnesses to the crime. The coroner’s office will release the name of the deceased once the family has been notified. I would like to extend my sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased.
Search for Witnesses to Pedestrian Death
The police department is seeking any witnesses to the hit and run accident that resulted in the pedestrians death. They can contact Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP or the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 with information. By using the smartphone app, P3 Tips, callers may also submit a tip anonymously.
Locating a Hit and Run Driver
An experienced personal injury lawyer with financial resources is invaluable in locating a hit and run driver. My firm has a good track record of locating a driver who caused an injury or pedestrian death.
Accident Investigation
Accident reconstruction used by a law firm is a valuable tool. The investigator can look for evidence such as road and tire marks on the pavement. Pieces of the vehicle may have been left behind, which can help identify the make and model. Paint from the vehicle is helpful too since automakers have their own colors and can narrow down the vehicle to a specific year, make and model.
Looking for video footage or witnesses from nearby businesses or homes can produce results. In some cases, the investigator may go door to door to conduct a search for witnesses. These, along with other techniques, can produce positive results in the search for the motorist who caused the pedestrian death.
Elements of a Wrongful Death Investigation
A seasoned wrongful death lawyer has experience in investigating a fatality caused by negligence. Whether the death is due to an accident or an intentional act, your attorney will be able to use the information to structure a strong case based on negligence. It is important to begin as soon as possible since evidence and witness information may be lost if too much time goes by.
Who Can File for Wrongful Death After a Hit and Run Fatality
Family members who were financially supported by at least 50 percent by the decedent can file for recovery of damages. This includes the wife or legal partner, natural or adopted children and stepchildren. Following are the areas where a financial loss can be claimed:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Future income that would have been provided by the decedent
- Inheritance
- Training, guidance, and care as a parent
- Loss of consortium, affection, comfort and moral support
- Household services, which may include lawn or childcare or other work the decedent did
- If the death was caused by homicide, the family may claim punitive damages, which are often high
