Authorities Looking for Information From Witnesses to Roadway Collision
The driver of the vehicle remained at the site. Major collision investigation detectives are working to determine how the crash occurred and to assign fault. Those who witnessed the fatal accident are urged to contact police at (916) 808-5471 or phone (916) 443-HELP, which is the number for Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers.
Solving a Roadway Collision Involving a Pedestrian
According to the National Safety Council, in 2021, 17 percent of all traffic fatalities around the nation were to pedestrians in traffic accidents. Pedestrians, of course, are physically vulnerable when they are involved in a traffic collision. Unfortunately, many of these accidents end up with severe injuries or fatalities.
For the family of the deceased to file a claim for wrongful death against the at-fault party, evidence must be gathered to prove their negligence. An injury lawyer’s job is to examine your case to see if you can place a wrongful death claim, gather the evidence that supports your case, and handle negotiations with the at-fault party’s insurance company.
Evidence in a Roadway Collision Wrongful Death
An investigation into a roadway crash usually begins with visiting the accident site. There, they take photos and gather what evidence is found. Afterward, an investigation includes searching the area for traffic surveillance cameras that might have captured the fatal accident as it happened. Performing accident reconstruction shows vehicle placement and how the crash occurred. Other techniques may include checking the police report and interviewing witnesses.
Recoverable Compensation in a Pedestrian Fatality Accident
The immediate family, by filing a wrongful death claim, may recover the funeral and burial expenses for their loved one. They may also recover the wages the deceased would have earned until retirement, including their pension/insurance benefits and others. Pain and suffering compensation is also available, which may include loss of consortium for the surviving spouse and the loss of parental guidance for the children. However, claims must be filed within the two-year statute of limitations.
