Fruitridge Road Site of Pedestrian Fatality

A pedestrian fatality occurred in the early hours of December 15 when a walker wAll Postsas severely injured and died at the accident scene after being struck by a red SUV. The accident was reported to the Sacramento Police Department, and officers arrived at the crash site at Fruitridge Road and Nona Way at about 3:00 a.m. Paramedics arrived to declare the pedestrian as expired. The accident investigation was taken over by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), which had jurisdiction where the incident occurred.

Further Information About the Accident

The SUV driver that hit the pedestrian stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. That person was released later. The vehicle was significantly damaged and impounded because it provides evidence of the accident. This is standard protocol. Both directions of Fruitridge Road were shut down between Ethel Way and 44th Street while the investigation was being conducted. Officials have identified the deceased pedestrian as 41-year-old Paulina Cassandra Almeda of Sacramento.

Dealing With a Sudden Pedestrian Death

Families are often overwhelmed with grief when a loved one is killed while out for a walk. No one is ever ready for a death in the family, but an unexpected loss is especially hard to deal with. There are ways to help the family through this challenging time:

  • Let them know you are there for them.
  • Be specific and ask which groceries they may need at the store or if they need prescription medicine refilled.
  • Offer to take young children to the park or school, and ask if you can take the dog for a walk.
  • Offer to take them to the funeral parlor to decide on end-of-life details.
  • Sit down and talk to the grieving family members. They need your presence now more than ever.
  • Remember, everyone grieves in their own way.

Please take a moment to watch a video presented by attorney Ed Smith in which he explains a wrongful death lawsuit:

How an Attorney Can Help in a Pedestrian Fatality

At our firm, we empathize with the grief you are suffering. In an accident due to negligence, many families want answers to why their loved one died. They also want justice from an at-fault party. Filing a wrongful death claim can put the negligent party on notice that their actions have consequences. It can also help the family with funeral expenses and household bills when the deceased’s support is no longer there. We examine the crash site to prove negligence, speak to witnesses, and use accident reconstruction techniques when the deceased can no longer speak for themselves. Our investigators also obtain traffic camera video footage to get a picture of the accident as it happened. Once all information is amassed, the investigative team turns the data over to our lawyers who use it in constructing a strong wrongful death case.
