Compensation Recovery After a Pedestrian Fatality Accident
A pedestrian accident that kills a loved one is one of the most tragic things you can experience. It is tough for the family to cope with a sudden loss, but funeral costs, burial expenses and other financial burdens can make it even harder. If a driver causes the death of a loved one, the family may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim for compensation for the loss.
Taking Legal Action for Wrongful Death
The family of a deceased member may be able to sue for wrongful death if another person or entity was negligent. Among those eligible to file a claim are the spouse or putative spouse, children, grandparents living in the house and being supported by the deceased and adopted and stepchildren. The administrator of the deceased’s estate may also file a claim.
However, only one claim may be filed, so the estate administrator and family should discuss which one should file. Obtaining fair compensation for their loss is possible with the help of a Sacramento wrongful death attorney. In addition, the attorney may advise on the best way to proceed.
