West El Camino Avenue Accident Causes a Pedestrian Death

A pedestrian fatality happened in Sacramento on January 1 at a local intersection. The accident was reported by the Sacramento Police Department as happening around West El Camino Avenue and Northgate Boulevard at about 8:55 in the evening. The male pedestrian was declared dead at the accident scene.

Pedestrian Fatality Under Investigation

The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and was cooperating with police who were investigating the cause of the pedestrian’s death. No other details have been released by authorities at this point.

Claiming Compensation for a Wrongful Death

People who have lost a close loved one are making funeral arrangements, relatives are coming into town for the services, and they are all very busy. The thought of filing for wrongful death following a pedestrian fatality is probably the last thing on their minds. However, losing a loved one can also mean loss of income and many other things as well as the expense of the funeral and burial.

Filing for wrongful death, in addition, also holds the at-fault person responsible financially. Our injury attorneys have successfully handled many of these claims and may be able to help you too. The following may be claimed in a wrongful death lawsuit after a family member becomes a pedestrian fatality:

  • The cost of funeral and burial expenses
  • Income lost by the death of the loved one, which includes what the individual would have earned during their working life
  • Loss of inheritance
  • Loss of consortium, which is the private relationship between spouses
  • Loss of comfort, support, and society

Although recovering financial damages for the loss of their loved one will not lessen the grief that family members feel, it can ease the financial strain the death has caused. This can give the family a sense of justice and closure and allows them to move into a new way of living without financial hardship. We offer a free, initial consultation to discuss your pedestrian fatality case when you call or contact us online. In it, we can answer any questions you might have and tell you what options are available.

Helping Someone Who Lost a Loved One

It can be difficult for the friend or family member of someone who lost a loved one suddenly to know what to do. When negligence by another person or entity was the cause of that loss, it is even worse. Family members are shocked and disbelieving at first. Then grief, guilt, anger, and a flurry of other emotions set in. Being supportive is important so they know they aren’t alone. Some of the suggestions that follow may help:

  • Send food over, such as a home-prepared casserole or take out. People who are deep in grief can forget to eat or have no appetite. However, they will eat if there is food readily available.
  • Offer to run errands such as picking up children from school, prescriptions from the pharmacy or others.
  • If the grieving person lives alone, offer to accompany them to the funeral parlor to make the arrangements. Having a sympathetic person along is important and much easier than doing it alone.
  • Remember that grief does not stop after the funeral service. Call and visit to continue to show your support.
