I-5 Pedestrian Fatality Accident Happens as Driver Flees
A pedestrian fatality occurred on Interstate 5 southbound in Sacramento on February 24 after a person on foot was struck by a vehicle. The collision occurred around 5:30 in the morning close to Richards Boulevard, causing a big backup of traffic. It was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) that the pedestrian was running across the highway when the accident happened.
I-5 Southbound Closed Down as Investigation Is Conducted in Pedestrian Fatality
The southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down as authorities conducted an investigation into the crash. The driver who struck and killed the pedestrian reportedly fled from the accident scene. Police investigators are working to determine how the accident happened and to locate the hit-and-run driver.
Number of Pedestrian Fatalities Growing in California
Over the past five years, the number of pedestrian accidents has grown to an unsettling number. This is due in part to an increase in the number of walkers using this mode of transportation. In addition, the number of motorists on the road has increased. Because pedestrians have little protection when they are involved in a crash with a motor vehicle, the number of pedestrian fatalities has grown.
Hit-and-Run Accidents and a Pedestrian Fatality
In the past several years, the number of hit-and-run accidents has increased drastically. In spite of serious penalties, it still continues to happen. The primary goal after a hit-and-run accident, aside from getting medical care for an injured person, is to find the fleeing driver. Along with the police, our investigators do everything they can to achieve this end.
However, if a hit-and-run driver cannot be located, there are ways to be compensated for financial loss. This includes using your own uninsured/underinsured insurance. It will pay for your damages without raising your premium.

What You Can Do to Help a Grieving Family
While there is no way that you can restore the life the family had prior to their loved one’s death, you can make it easier for them during this trying period. There is no one way to do this, but below, we offer suggestions on how you can help:
- Call or visit the family. It is best to ensure that visiting is permitted.
- Send flowers, donations to the deceased’s favorite charity, or other conveyances of sympathy. This is usually well appreciated.
- Call and offer to bring pre-cooked or purchased food to the family’s residence. Frequently, the family is so involved with the end-of-life tasks that need to be done that they forget to eat.
- Offer to do various household chores such as shopping, walking the dog or picking up children from school.
- Inform the family that you are willing to take them to various appointments such as the doctor’s office or to the funeral parlor to make the arrangements.
- Remember to stay in touch after the funeral and burial services are over. This is an extraordinarily hard time for the family, and they need your presence more than ever.
How a Wrongful Death Lawsuit Can Help
Many families experience not just sorrow but financial worries that add to the stress of the situation. In such cases, it helps to visit a wrongful death attorney, who can review the case and tell you whether a claim against the at-fault party can be made. While a wrongful death lawsuit will in no way bring back a loved one or eliminate the grief the family is feeling, it can prevent them from facing financial difficulties when a supportive loved one has died.
