The arrest of a 30-year-old man was made recently in connection with a pedestrian injury accident involving a fleeing driver near Vallejo. The collision occurred in American Canyon along Highway 28, close to Kimberly Drive, around 12:50 in the morning. The Napa County Sheriff’s Office reported that the man was charged with a suspected hit-and-run resulting in injury.

Pedestrian Injury Accident Suspect Released on Bail

Hours later, the arrested man was released on $50,000 bail. The injured pedestrian was severely injured after being hit by a Pontiac Vibe. Those with any information about the accident are asked to contact investigators at (707) 253-6030.

California Felony Hit-and-Run

A hit-and-run in California is a felony if someone is injured or killed and the driver leaves the scene. If convicted, it is punishable by a fine up to $10,000, prison time and restitution to the person who was injured or family who lost a loved one. When that driver is located, the injured party has the right to file a personal injury claim, which can recover the following damages:

  • All of the medical bills that mount up involving the injured pedestrian are recoverable. Medical bills include the ambulance, hospitalization, surgeries, tests, medication, etc. If the injured person requires rehabilitative care, that is also recovered and needs modifications to the home. Future medical costs, if the injury is ongoing, are recoverable also.
  • If the injured pedestrian was employed and could not work because of their injury, their wages during this missing period are recoverable. Wages include other job perks such as insurance coverage, pension, tips, etc. If the injury is not resolved by the time settlement is reached, future wage loss can be calculated and recovered.
  • Compensation for pain and suffering: Those injured due to someone else’s negligence can obtain compensation for their physical pain and suffering. Additionally, they can be reimbursed if they suffer emotional or psychological problems due to trauma. Many people suffer from depression, anxiety, nightmares, or even reliving a pedestrian injury accident or are afraid to go out in public. Some have to seek professional help to treat post-traumatic stress disorder. The cost of seeking that help is also reimbursable.
