Pedestrian Injury Occurs Along Calvine Road in Sacramento
A pedestrian injury occurred in Sacramento on September 30, when the person was struck by a vehicle along Calvine Road. A report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) states that they were dispatched to the collision, which occurred near Hardester Drive at about 12:18 in the morning. When police and emergency responders from Metro Fire arrived, they discovered an adult pedestrian in the roadway. Civilians were there trying to assist the injured person.
Additional Information About the Accident
The pedestrian was taken by paramedics to a nearby hospital with unreported injuries. The driver who struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigating officers. The westbound left lane of Calvine Road was shut down between Barrymore Drive and the railroad tracks as the CHP investigated the accident.
Pedestrian Accidents
Pedestrian accidents seem to happen every few days around Sacramento, and many are caused by driver negligence. Some of the most common reasons for driver negligence are:
- Distracted driving from either texting or talking on a cell phone can cause a pedestrian injury. Talking with passengers or checking GPS are additional reasons that accidents with pedestrians occur.
- Speeding is a major cause of all types of accidents. It has been shown that the faster a vehicle is going, the more serious the injuries to the walker in a pedestrian accident.
- Drunk driving contributes to many accidents each year, as well as fatalities.
- Fatigued driving contributes to accidents resulting in a pedestrian injury. These types of accidents are more common during the night hours and in the afternoons.
- Running a red light or other forms of reckless driving can result in a pedestrian injury.
- Aggressive driving or road rage means that the driver is acting in a way that is considered unsafe and dangerous to others on the road. Actions may include cutting in and out of lanes, tailgating, and others.
Seeking Help From a Lawyer
An experienced lawyer has the ability to investigate an accident to prove fault. This is necessary for an injured person to claim fair compensation to pay for their pain and suffering, lost time from work, and for their medical costs. When an accident happens, evidence can quickly disappear or be covered up. This is why it is important to contact an experienced lawyer quickly in order to get the compensation you deserve.
What Our Investigators Do
Our investigators first head to the pedestrian injury site to check the police report for inaccuracies and talk to witnesses to the crash. They then search for video cameras nearby on the streets and businesses that may have captured the accident on tape. It is also important to check the roadway for potholes, poor lighting, overgrown foliage, and other forms of poor maintenance. If they exist, it may also be possible to file a claim against the government agency in charge. Accident reconstruction may be performed to show how the incident occurred, and investigators will look for signs the motorist tried to stop by looking for tire marks and gouges in the pavement. Once all the evidence is compiled, it will be given to our lawyers to build a strong case against the defendant. This can be used either in negotiations with the insurance company or to prepare a case for trial in civil court.
