A pedestrian injury happened following a hit-and-run in Sacramento on March 16. Authorities Searching for Hit-and-Run Driver
When paramedics with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived, they discovered the injured pedestrian and provided treatment. The patient’s condition and whether they were transported to a hospital for further attention were not reported. Authorities are searching for the fleeing driver and conducting an investigation to find out how the pedestrian injury accident happened.
A Pedestrian Injury Can Be Serious
Because pedestrians are so vulnerable to severe injuries when in an accident caused by a negligent driver, they can face high medical bills, a long hospitalization, and be unable to work. Our injury lawyers have successfully obtained compensation for many injured pedestrians and may be able to do the same for you through a personal injury claim. The following expenses can be recovered in a case of this type:
- Medical expenses: All medical expenses caused by the pedestrian injury accident can be recovered. This includes everything from the cost of the ambulance, hospitalization, tests, and doctors’ fees to rehabilitation. If the injury continues into the future, that can also be recovered.
- Lost wages: Wages that were lost because the pedestrian injury prevented the person from working are recovered, including any regular bonuses and other perks. If the pedestrian’s injury is expected to continue, those wages are recoverable too.
- Pain and suffering: This category is noneconomic, so a price has to be set for the loss. It includes physical, mental, and emotional pain, loss of consortium, and reimbursement for the inability to enjoy life as before or engage in activities.
Pedestrian Accidents at Intersections
Intersections are commonly used by pedestrians to cross the streets and are supposed to help them stay safe. However, this isn’t always the case. From dangerous crosswalks to negligent drivers, a pedestrian injury commonly occurs. Some of the reasons motorists cause a collision with a pedestrian are:
- A driver is speeding and runs through a red light or stop sign. If someone is walking across the street when a negligent driver speeds through, it can result in a serious pedestrian injury.
- A motorist making a right-hand turn doesn’t notice a pedestrian stepping off the curb. In some cases, this might be because untrimmed shrubs or overhanging foliage obscures the walker from sight. The government entity in charge of maintenance can be held responsible in these cases.
- A motorist doesn’t notice a pedestrian in the crosswalk and strikes them.
- A driver making a left-turn continues on ahead and hits a pedestrian even though the walker is in the process of crossing the street.
How We Investigate a Pedestrian Injury Accident
Our investigative team goes right to work to find the evidence needed to support a client’s compensation claim. This includes performing accident reconstruction, searching for traffic and business cameras that could have captured the accident on tape, and talking to witnesses. In addition, they look for signs of government negligence that could have contributed to the pedestrian injury accident and review the police report for errors.
