The accident happened at the intersection of El Camino Avenue and Howe Avenue in a parking lot around 6:48 in the evening. When they are located, the driver may be facing felony hit-and-run charges for leaving the scene of the accident.
Pedestrian Injury Caused by Hit-and-Run Driver
Upon arrival, first responders with the Sacramento Fire Department assessed the injured pedestrian. They then transported the patient to UC Davis Medical Center with what were described as facial injuries. CHP officers are conducting an investigation into the incident to locate the hit-and-run driver.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in Sacramento
The number of hit-and-run accidents in California has escalated in recent years, reaching an all-time high. Such accidents are difficult for an injured party worried about financial recovery. Some reasons why the threat of hit-and-run accidents has increased are:
- The driver does not have a license or registration and fears they will lose their driving privileges if they remain at the scene.
- The car is stolen, and staying at the accident site would mean the driver would face charges and conviction.
- Driver panic after an accident is common and results in the motorist leaving the scene of the pedestrian injury.
- Drivers operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol fear they will be arrested.
- Many drivers in California do not have auto insurance, which is against the law, and will flee the scene of a pedestrian injury accident.
Facial Injuries in a Pedestrian Accident
Facial injuries can be devastating and cause damage that might require reconstructive surgery to correct. The biggest problem here is that insurance companies may refuse to pay for such surgeries. That is why a personal injury claim is necessary.
Types of Facial Injuries
Some of the more common types of facial injuries are:
- Fractured jaw
- Damage to the eye and loss of vision
- Deep lacerations that can result in scarring and disfigurement
- Damage to the teeth that might require dental surgery, which is often not covered by insurance
- Fractures of the bones of the face, including the nose
Paying for Damages in a Hit-and-Run Accident
Many clients worry about apprehending the fleeing driver because they fear their damages will not be covered. Although many fleeing drivers are apprehended, there are times when this does not happen. We help our clients obtain damages by using their uninsured/underinsured policy coverage. This is offered to all drivers in the state of California, although it is not mandatory.
It covers a driver for an accident injury, whether they are walking, bicycling, or driving their car. If uninsured/underinsured protection is not carried by the injured person, but another member of their family has it, they can use theirs. There is no increase in the premium when this add-on policy is used.
