Details of the Deadly Fresno Accidents
Fresno police said a woman driving a Ford sedan northbound on Marks Avenue hit Singh, who was crossing the street on West Clinton Avenue. Officials said the driver initially pulled over to the side of the road and got out of the car but, for unknown reasons, fled the scene. Meanwhile, a second person driving a red Chevrolet north on Marks Avenue did not see Singh lying on the road and also struck him. Singh was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the second driver remained on the scene and cooperated with officers.
In an update Tuesday afternoon, police said the first driver has been arrested and is facing a felony hit-and-run. Police will determine if more charges will be added, including vehicular manslaughter.
Loss of a Loved One in a Tragic Accident
It can be overwhelming when a family member is unexpectedly killed, and nothing can compare emotionally to the loss. It can also be financially challenging, as the surviving family members may be left without the support they need to move on with life.
If a fatal hit-and-run accident has deprived you of your dear loved one, you may be able to hold the negligent party liable through a wrongful death claim.
Compensation for a Fatal Fresno Hit-and-Run Accident
Seeking compensation for the damage done by the at-fault party is not always easy, especially when wrongful death is involved. Even if the responsible driver is charged, this may give the family some sense of justice, but it may not always ensure the financial means they need to recover from the death. California law recognizes such losses and provides a way to protect surviving family members from intangible and financial harm. The following damages may be awarded in a wrongful death case:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical costs
- Loss of future financial support and benefits
- Lost companionship, guidance, care, affection, and moral support
- Loss of household services
- Pain and suffering
- Punitive damages

Does Insurance Cover Wrongful Death?
After losing a loved one in a fatal hit-and-run accident, you may wonder how you will be covered for your loved one’s wrongful death. In these situations, you may be able to seek recourse through the decedent’s auto insurance policy if they have uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) protection. If the decedent did not have the UM/UIM insurance policy but lived with someone who did, the policy may be extended to them under unique circumstances.
