Pickup Truck Overturns During Morning Commute
I’m Ed Smith, a Rancho Cordova Auto Accident Attorney. It is not uncommon for people to drink that morning cup of coffee before starting their work day with a commute; however, it is important for people to ensure that they are alert enough to pay attention to their surroundings. After driving erratically in Rancho Cordova on Sunrise Boulevard, a pickup truck overturned with tragic results.
Witnesses Reported Vehicle Weaving Dangerously
During the morning hours of May 18, 2017, witnesses spotted a pickup truck driving wildly, and possibly speeding, on Sunrise Boulevard in nearby Rancho Cordova. The pickup truck was traveling south near Chrysanthy Boulevard weaving dangerously between cars, perhaps engaging in reckless driving. Eventually, the driver of the vehicle lost control as it ran off of the road and flipped several times. Somehow, the vehicle landed back on the pavement; however, the results of the truck accident were already disastrous.
One Fatality Reported
Unfortunately, not everyone involved survived the accident. The pickup truck in the single car accident was transporting three people; a driver and two passengers. One passenger was able to exit the pickup truck and await the arrival of law enforcement and emergency personnel. The other passenger was ejected, likely with serious traumatic injuries, but is expected to live. The driver of the vehicle was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ejection from a Vehicle can Cause Multiple Injuries
When an accident reports that someone had been ejected from the vehicle, some people may be unclear as to what this means. Drivers and passengers who wear their seatbelts are less likely to be ejected from a vehicle because the belt restrains them when the car comes to a sudden stop, such as in the case of an auto accident. If a driver or passenger does not wear their seatbelt, or the seatbelt malfunctions, their momentum could carry them through the glass of their car at high speeds. This usually results in traumatic injuries and/or death. If their head strikes the windshield or the pavement, the individual could sustain devastating head and brain injuries. That same person could suffer extensive extremity trauma if they extend a limb to break their fall before striking the ground. These are major medical injuries that could result in an extended stay in the ICU, multiple surgical procedures, or, possibly, a wrongful death. Wearing a seatbelt can lessen the risk of injury in a car accident.
