Colfax Vehicle Accident Causes Bicyclist’s Death on Highway 184

A Placer County bicyclist was killed in a Colfax vehicle accident, which is northeast of Auburn, on June 27. The collision occurred along Highway 184 between Red Frog Bar and Hill Drive at about 1:52 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Authorities said the driver of the pickup that struck the bicyclist did not see him because he was wearing dark clothing and there were no reflectors.

The bicycle rider died after he was transported to a hospital. The pickup driver remained at the accident scene and cooperated with the investigation by CHP traffic crash detectives. Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to factor into the cause of the crash.

Bicyclist Wrongful Death Claims

To support a fatal Colfax vehicle accident claim, there must be concrete evidence indicating that another person or entity was at fault. In California, immediate family members are eligible to receive damages if the death of their loved one was caused by someone else’s negligence or wrongdoing. An accident attorney can aid them in filing a wrongful death claim.

Evidence of Wrongful Death in a Colfax Vehicle Accident

An injury lawyer can investigate bicyclist deaths due to traffic collisions to determine if there is sufficient evidence for wrongful death claims. Your personal injury lawyer will compile evidence and pertinent documents related to the accident, such as police reports, witness statements, traffic surveillance footage, and photographs. Furthermore, a medical expert witness can provide testimony regarding the causes of death and the negligent actions of the responsible party.

Contacting a Wrongful Death Lawyer

To make a successful claim after a fatal accident, the family should promptly contact a California wrongful death attorney. An attorney can help gather evidence and evaluate its strength to ensure all aspects of the case are considered.

Damages That Can Be Recovered for Wrongful Death

Several types of damages can be recovered through California wrongful death lawsuits following a Colfax Vehicle accident, including:

  • The costs associated with funeral and burial services can be recovered.
  • Compensation for the deceased person’s lost wages, pensions, and insurance benefits up until their retirement age is recoverable.
  • Damages for the loss of guidance and protection for the children of the family are recoverable.
  • The spouse or partner of the decedent may recover compensation for their loss of consortium, love and affection.
  • Loss of household assistance can be claimed, which involves all the jobs the decedent performed around the home. These may include auto and lawn care, doing taxes, childcare, cooking, cleaning and others.
  • If the decedent left a will designating beneficiaries, loss of inheritance may be claimable in some instances.
