An interstate accident in Placer County on September 18 caused the hospitalization of several people. SUV Rolls Multiple Times in Interstate Accident
The impact caused the SUV to roll over multiple times before it landed on its wheels. An additional vehicle involved in the crash from the eastbound side, a white Toyota Prius, lost a tire. It was stuck in traffic and towed from the scene. The female Stockton driver of the SUV, 30, suffered major injuries in the crash.
Interstate Accident Results in Hospitalization of Two People
A male riding in the passenger seat, age 39, sustained a fractured leg in the incident. Both were hospitalized. There were also three minors in the vehicle, ages 2, 8, and 9, who were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. The freeway was reported open by Caltrans shortly before 4:30 p.m. The CHP traffic unit is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.
Rollover Accidents and Their Dangers
Rollovers are among the most dangerous accidents, especially on a highway, because of the increased speeds. Vehicles with a higher center of gravity, such as vans, SUVs and light pickups, tend to experience a rollover more easily than others. However, given the right circumstances, any vehicle can roll. A rollover often causes increased or more serious injuries, especially if the following happens:
- The windshield or side windows shatter, which can cause serious lacerations.
- The seat belt breaks or airbags malfunction, causing serious trauma to those inside. When a malfunction in the vehicle occurs due to a defect, a product liability claim can be made against the manufacturer to recover compensation.
- The vehicle experiences roof crush when it rolls. The people inside cannot only be trapped by roof crush but their space in which to survive is reduced. Auto manufacturers are required by law to build side supports and roof structures that can withstand a rollover. If the roof fails and causes injuries or fatalities, the injured party or family can file a claim against the auto manufacturer.
- Misplaced signs, potholes and other problems with the pavement can lead to an interstate accident. An accident investigation conducted by an injury lawyer may be able to determine this. When government negligence is found to be the cause of the interstate crash, the injured party can file a claim to recover compensation. The statute of limitations against a government entity expires six months after the accident injury, so seeking the help of an accident attorney can ensure it is filed in a timely manner.
- An aggressive driver can cause an interstate accident by crowing a vehicle until the motorist loses control. An accident lawyer can determine if another vehicle was involved and hold the driver responsible when the client files a personal injury claim.
