Placerville Road Rage Accident Injures Woman
I’m Ed Smith, a Placerville personal injury lawyer. A 29-year-old woman was left with serious injuries after a collision that occurred near Placerville on Monday, April 30, 2018. Placerville Investigators have reported that they believe the crash was caused by an intentional violent act. California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that a 22-year-old driver who had been involved in the crash was arrested at the accident scene. The man was arrested on multiple charges related to the collision including assault. No updates on the woman’s condition have been reported by medical officials, but her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Accident Details
CHP says that the crash happened at around 6:30 p.m. The 22-year-old man had been driving west on Highway 50 in a Freightliner Sprinter model van. Suddenly, the man drove his van over the highway median and crossed into the oncoming traffic lane. After entering the opposing lane, the man drove his vehicle head-on into a GMC Yukon. Officers say that the two cars crashed in the area near the Randall Tract Bridge.
The van continued to travel off the highway after the crash and came to a rest in the middle of the American River. Reports state that a passerby helped the driver out of his van and back onto dry land. The passerby was interviewed and told reporters that he had seen debris drifting in the river and that this led him to notice the wrecked van.
Response
The woman was found by accident responders with severe injuries and was taken to an area hospital to be treated. Responders also found two dogs in her GMC and noted that the dogs were not harmed during the crash. Specifics about the woman’s injuries were not reported.
The van driver was arrested at the crash scene. After being taken to the Marshall Medical Center for medical screening, the man was booked into the El Dorado County Jail.
Road Rage Accidents
Road rage crashes are typically a tragedy because they involve situations that could have been easily avoided. According to the National Highway Traffic Administration, aggressive driving and road rage are the cause of around 66 percent of fatal crashes in the U.S and two percent of drivers admit that they have attempted to run another driver off of the roadway.
Road rage accidents are different from other types of crashes because they are treated as criminal offenses instead of traffic violations. However, those injured by aggressive drivers are still able to seek compensation.
