DUI Arrest Made After Fatal Whiskeytown Crash
One person sadly lost their life after a fatal Whiskeytown crash that took place on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Officials of California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the accident happened at night and involved two vehicles. In addition to the fatally injured person, one other individual received major injuries as a result of the crash. The decedent’s identity is still being withheld by Shasta County officials.
Crash Information
The accident occurred on Highway 299 near Whiskeytown Lake at about 8:15 p.m. A 42-year-old man from Redding was driving a black 1999 Toyota pickup truck traveling west toward the city of Weaverville near the Whiskeytown truck scales when it drifted over the highway median. As the Toyota entered the eastbound lane, it collided head-on with a Chevy pickup truck. Pictures of the accident scene show extreme damage to the front ends of both vehicles.
CHP sent responders to the crash site immediately after receiving a notification about the crash. When responders arrived on-scene, they found that both drivers had suffered severe injuries. The driver of the Chevy was reportedly given life-saving procedures and placed on a medical helicopter to be transported to an area hospital. However, the injured woman tragically passed away in the helicopter. The driver of the Toyota was placed under arrest for DUI before being released into the custody of medical personnel for treatment of major trauma.
The Cost of Deadly Accidents
Fatal accidents change peoples’ lives. Losing a loved one can be extremely difficult and people who’ve lost somebody in a sudden accident often feel completely shocked and overwhelmed after they’ve learned about the crash. The grief that people deal with after suddenly losing a loved one can be devastating, and it often takes a long time for people to learn how to cope and move on with their lives. During this time, it’s very important to treat yourself with care and to seek support from the people in your community and family.
Tragically, fatal crashes can also have major financial consequences for the families of decedents. In many cases, families are left with medical bills for procedures performed after the accident and before their loved one’s death. Additionally, losing a member of your household also often means losing a source of income that you and your family rely on to pay bills. Unfortunately, these concerns can make it difficult for people to focus on coping with their grief.
