In the California Workers Comp system QME examiners are licensed doctors appointed for 2 year terms by the Administrative
Director of the Workers Compensation Board. Doctors are appointed in each medical specialty.
I list of doctors in every specialty can be found here.
A QME examiner is paid by the Board to determine whether a worker needs future care as a result of a work related injury.
The QME doctor will examine the worker, take a history and then do a comprehensive medical-legal evaluation.
There are statutes that specify exactly what physicians are qualified to be QME Doctors.
Each physician performing a medical evaluation in a workers compensation case in California must have a QME certificate.
