Rancho Cordova Duplex Fire

Rancho Cordova Duplex Fire

Sacramento Metro Fire is reporting no loss of life in today’s duplex fire on Reba Court in Rancho Cordova.

Reba Court is located near Abraham Lincoln Elementary School.

Family Pet Perishes in Fire

Fire crews responded quickly to this early-morning blaze.  They were happy to find all family members had made it out of the duplex without injury.

We were sad to learn that one dog perished in this fire.  Two other pets were lucky to escape without being harmed.

Child Smells Smoke

A 12-year-old girl living in the duplex was first to smell the smoke.  After discovering flames in the garage, she woke her dad and other family members up.

They all exited the structure without incident.

Meanwhile, a huge plume of smoke darkened the early morning sky.  Motorists driving along Highway 50 couldn’t help but notice a fire was burning nearby.

Damages

Investigators indicated that the fire originated in the garage on one side of the duplex.  Unfortunately, that side of the duplex was completely destroyed by fire.

The other side of the duplex was partially destroyed.  Initial estimates of the property damage is in excess of $300,000.

We understand that the occupants have a renter’s insurance policy in effect.

The cause of the blaze remains unclear at this point.  Fire investigators cannot yet rule out electrical issues.

Two Families Displaced

The two families living in the duplex are related to one another.  A total of seven occupants of the duplex are displaced this afternoon.

Emotional Trauma

Unexpected, tragic events such as the fire that occurred for these two families this morning can cause tremendous anxiety and stress.  This is the same type of stress that many dealing with the California Wildfires are facing.  For more information on how to cope after a fire, please follow this link.

With the Butte and Valley Wildfires burning out of control, we are very thankful to Sacramento Metro Fire personnel for fighting local structure fires in the region.  We are sure their resources are being stretched during this difficult fire season.

It is our hope that many displaced families will be receiving housing and other assistance from the American Red Cross and local churches in the area.
