Five People Transported to the Hospital Following Lincoln Rear-End Collision

A rear-end collision in Lincoln on July 1 resulted in five people being transported to a nearby hospital for injuries. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as occurring on Nelson Lane near the Lincoln Bypass shortly past 10:00 in the morning. It happened as an SUV stopped at a traffic light and was struck in the rear by a motorist in a sedan. After the impact, the sedan crashed into the traffic light.

Rear-End Collision Results in Five Injuries

A man and woman were injured in the sedan from the crash and taken to a hospital with what were described as minor injuries. Three individuals riding in the SUV were also transported to the hospital for unknown injuries. According to the investigators into the crash, alcohol or drugs did not appear to be an influence in the cause of the rear-end collision.

Causes of a Rear-End Accident

A rear-end collision can happen in a number of ways, but almost all of them are due to driver error. Some causes include:

Common Injuries in a Hit From Behind Accident

Some people might think that a rear-end collision when the first vehicle is stopped at a traffic light would only result in minor injuries. However, this is far from true. Serious injuries and even fatalities are possible. Some of the most common injuries that occur in this type of accident are:

  • Cervical strain or sprain, commonly called whiplash, is the most common type of injury in a rear-end collision. Because a motorist does not expect to be struck from behind, the neck muscles are relaxed, which causes the head to whip back and forth, straining or spraining them. The National Safety Council reports that half of all cervical strain or sprain injuries last for at least a year.
  • Airbag injuries happen when inflation occurs due to a collision. When an airbag deploys at around 20 mph, it can cause broken bones in the ribs or face as well as other trauma.
  • Back injuries occur as a result of a rear-end collision because the impact of the crash compresses the discs and exerts pressure on the spine.
  • Head injuries are common in any type of traffic accident and can be caused when the individual impacts the steering wheel, dash or another part of the vehicle. Concussion or more serious injuries can occur.

How a Car Accident Is Investigated

Investigation of a car accident is important for the injured person to collect the compensation they deserve. This is done by the collection of evidence. Our experienced investigators look for traffic and/or business cameras that might have caught the rear-end collision on tape. They speak to the witnesses to get their statements and look at the police report to determine whether it is accurate. By performing accident reconstruction, it can demonstrate to the insurance company or jury exactly what led to the accident and show who was at fault. Our lawyers take over once the evidence is compiled to negotiate with the insurer for fair compensation or prepare a court case if needed.
