Marysville Rear-End Collision Reported on S.R. 70

A rear-end collision in Marysville on July 19 caused injuries to at least one person. The accident was reported as occurring around 12:25 p.m. along State Route 70 just south of Woodruff Lane. A Toyota Corolla and Volovo were involved in the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP)

Rear-End Collision Being Investigated to Determine Fault

One of the vehicles was blocking the intersection. Medics with the Marysville Fire Department arrived at the scene to assess injuries. The police report stated that the Toyota sustained front-end damage in the crash. An assessment of what caused the collision and fault is being undertaken by CHP traffic investigators.

Negligence Can Lead to Rear-End Crashes on a Highway

Rear-end collisions on highways can be caused by a number of different factors. One common cause is negligence. Negligence occurs when the driver of one vehicle fails to take reasonable care for the safety of other people on the road. This can include driving too close to another car, not paying attention to their surroundings or not reacting in time to avoid a crash.

Disobeying Traffic Laws

Negligent drivers may also contribute to rear-end accidents by failing to adjust their speed according to weather and road conditions, ignoring posted limits at which they can drive or improperly following another vehicle. The consequences of negligent driving can be serious—even deadly—and those who are found at fault in an accident may face criminal charges as well as civil liability for any damages caused.

Distracted Driving as a Major Cause of an Accident From the Rear

Distracted driving is a major factor in rear-end accidents on highways. Distracted drivers are usually multitasking behind the wheel and not paying attention to their surroundings. This can include talking on a cell phone, texting, adjusting the radio, eating or drinking while driving and other activities that require the driver’s focus away from the road. It only takes a second of distraction for an accident to occur, so it is important for all drivers to remain alert and focused when operating a vehicle on any type of roadway.
