Cap City Freeway Rear-End Collision Interferes With Traffic
A rear-end collision occurred along the Cap City Freeway in Sacramento on December 2 near an on-ramp entrance. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as happening shortly after 3:00 in the afternoon just north of the E Street entrance ramp when a Mercedes S500 was struck in the rear by a Honda sedan. The accident impeded traffic in the slow lane.
Additional Information About the Rear-End Collision
A caller to the CHP who saw the accident occur said the Mercedes was struck hard. It is unknown whether any injuries occurred as of the time of this report. The roadway was quickly cleared for traffic. The accident is being investigated to determine how it happened by the CHP.
Causes of a Rear-End Collision
Almost all accidents that involve a rear-end collision are caused by the negligence of the driver to the rear. When they end up causing injuries to the driver and passengers in the vehicle in front, they may claim fair compensation. It can help them recover their medical expenses, the time they’ve lost from being unable to work, and their pain and suffering.
The experienced lawyers in my office have successfully handled many of these cases over the years and can help you too. Remember, your initial consultation is free and gives you the opportunity to have your case reviewed and your questions answered as well as finding out what options are available to you. Some of the reasons a rear-end collision happens are:
- Aggressive driving: Whether it’s because the driver to the rear is in a hurry or is angry, the result of driving too closely is the same. It is expected that drivers will maintain a distance between vehicles that will allow them to stop in time to avoid an accident.
- Drunk drivers: Inebriated drivers lack the ability to judge distances. This lack of cognitive ability leads to many rear-end collisions.
- Distracted driving: By focusing on things other than the road, distracted drivers are unaware of the dangers ahead. This behavior is now the leading cause of traffic accidents.
- Speeding: Drivers who speed may see a dangerous situation ahead but cannot stop in time to avoid a rear-end collision.
- Fatigued driver: Today, due to busy schedules, many drivers are too tired to drive. Closing your eyes for even a few seconds can end in a rear-end collision.
Investigating a Rear-End Collision
At our law firm, we know the value of investigative work after an accident. That is why we send our investigative team to the accident scene as soon as possible to successfully resolve a case in our client’s favor. Our investigators:
- Survey the crash site for dangerous road conditions or non-working traffic signals. If they are present and caused by a lax governmental agency, a lawsuit can be filed against them.
- Our investigators interview witnesses to the accident for details.
- They search for video footage of the accident from traffic surveillance cameras or other sources.
- Our investigative team performs accident reconstruction techniques that help to determine liability.
- They also review police reports for mistakes. The reports are commonly used in negotiations with insurance companies and in court.
- Once the evidentiary data is gathered, the investigators release it to our lawyers.
