Motorist Injured in 26th Street Off-Ramp Crash
A reckless driver in Sacramento reportedly caused another vehicle to crash into a light pole on December 11 at 12:09 p.m., injuring the person inside. The accident occurred along westbound U.S. 50 on the 26th Street off-ramp and was investigated by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). According to their report, the driver of a Buick sedan was driving recklessly and apparently came too close to another vehicle, identified as a Jeep Cherokee. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee, after swerving to avoid being struck by the Buick, ran into a light pole, which came crashing down.
The Aftermath of the Accident
Paramedics were called to the scene to evaluate an injured occupant in the Cherokee. The nature of the person’s injuries was not disclosed as of the time of this report. The driver of the Buick fled the scene of the accident. The CHP is searching for the fleeing reckless driver. Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact the local CHP office. The Cherokee remained drivable and was moved from the off-ramp to 26th Street.
Reckless Driver Dangers
Reckless drivers display a high disregard for others sharing the roadway. Actions they commit may include tailgating, excessive speeding, street racing, running a red light, weaving in and out of traffic, or other behaviors that endanger others. Road rage and aggressive drivers are an additional problem. These motorists may exhibit the same signs as a reckless driver but can increase the risk of an accident by braking suddenly, making threats, or even forcing another vehicle off the road. These illegal acts may cause an innocent person to crash their vehicle, resulting in serious injuries. When a reckless, drunk, or other irresponsible driver caused your injuries, I sympathize and can offer you free advice with no obligation on whether you have a case against the at-fault driver. You may be able to recover your medical costs and lost wages as well as monetary compensation for your pain and suffering. However, evidence disappears quickly, so it is important to call as soon as possible.
How a Lawyer Can Help
An experienced lawyer, working with police, has the wherewithal and ability to find a fleeing driver in many cases. However, if the driver cannot be located, uninsured/underinsured insurance coverage can be used. It covers not only motorists who are injured in an accident but motorcyclists, bicycle riders, and pedestrians. This insurance is offered as an add-on to a regular policy, but it is optional. If the injured person does not have this type of coverage, they may be covered by anyone else living in the household who does have it. The good news is that using uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage to pay for accident injuries does not result in an increase in rates.
Investigating a Reckless Driver Accident
When a driver is forced off the road because of a reckless or aggressive motorist, a lawyer can help. Sending our investigators to check the police report for inaccuracies and interview witnesses is the first step our law firm takes. Then the investigators can look for traffic surveillance cameras and check with local businesses seeking video footage, which can identify the vehicle and perhaps catch the license plate. In a number of cases, the vehicle and driver can be identified. This allows the injured person to place a claim for compensation for their injuries, pain and suffering and lost time from work. Our lawyers use the gathered information to negotiate with the insurance company on your behalf or present a strong case for compensation in civil court against the at-fault driver.
