Redding Crash Leaves Pedestrian Seriously Hurt
I’m Ed Smith, a Redding personal injury lawyer. Reports from the local police state that one person was injured during a pedestrian and vehicle accident in Redding on Friday, August 17, 2018. Redding Police Department (RPD) reported that the crash took place shortly before noon and left the pedestrian with severe injuries. RPD also stated that they are currently investigating this accident and looking into factors that may have caused it. So far, updates on the condition of the injured pedestrian have not been made available by medical officials. My best wishes go out to the injured pedestrian as she attempts to recover from her injuries.
Crash Details
RPD’s reports state that the accident took place at around 11:15 a.m. at the intersection of Beverly Drive and Cypress Avenue. A pedestrian, who has only been identified as a female, had been walking across the roadway when she was struck by an oncoming Black Mercedes SUV. RPD noted that the impact of the collision knocked the woman about 25 feet away from the vehicle.
The woman was found at the accident scene with major injuries. Medical responders had her immediately taken via ground ambulance to the nearest hospital for urgent care. Reportedly, none of the occupants of the SUV suffered any injuries due to the crash.
Investigation
As the investigation continues, RPD officers are looking at a variety of possible crash factors. However, RPD has not reported any suspected accident causes so far. Investigators did mention that the woman had been crossing the intersection in a pedestrian crossing area marked by flashing lights at the time of the collision.
Pedestrian Accidents
Pedestrians lack the protection that drivers and vehicle passengers have. Because pedestrians have nothing to protect them, they are very vulnerable and can easily suffer severe injuries when a crash happens. Some of the injuries that pedestrians are likely to receive include traumatic brain injuries, fractured bones, spinal trauma, internal bleeding, and more. These severe injuries often dramatically affect peoples’ day-to-day lives. Some are even left unable to continue working or doing the activities they love.
Because the results of being injured in a crash can be so severe, pedestrians are often able to reclaim payments for their losses after being struck by a vehicle. To learn more about what types of damages are recoverable and whether or not your claim might be worth pursuing, it is a good idea to contact a local personal injury lawyer. A lawyer with relevant experience can help you understand what you are owed and how to take steps toward financial recovery after being in an accident.
