Redding Highway Crash Causes Injuries

Officials of California Highway Patrol (CHP) have stated that a local car accident left multiple people with serious injuries. The collision reportedly occurred on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. The accident took place on a highway location within Redding while it was dark outside. Officers noted that the crash happened not long after another collision took place in the same area. However, no injuries were reported in the prior crash. Updates on the conditions of the injured individuals have not yet been reported, and CHP says that their investigators are still looking into this case to find out what may have caused the crash.

Collision Information

According to reports, the first collision took place on eastbound Highway 44 a short distance south of the onramp for 1-5 just after 6:00 p.m. Police stated that this accident involved four separate vehicles. Traffic information indicated that this collision had been relatively minor and highway lanes were open shortly after it took place.

The second crash occurred about a half-hour after the first and happened just past the I-5 onramp. Police reports did not indicate how the accident took place or how many vehicles were involved. However, medical officials stated that multiple people were found at the scene of the accident with major injuries. An animal control unit was also called to the crash site to help responders handle dogs that had been in one of the involved vehicles. Whether or not the dogs were injured was unreported.

Investigation

So far, investigators have not yet stated what factors they believe may have been a part of this incident. It is unknown whether or not any of the drivers had been intoxicated at the time of the crash. However, crash factors that are commonly involved in accidents like this one include reckless driving behaviors, distraction, hazardous roadways or poor road maintenance, auto part defects, fatigue, and more.
