Redding Multi-Vehicle Collision
I’m Ed Smith, a Redding car accident lawyer. On Thursday, February 2, 2017, a multi-vehicle accident occurred in Redding on Highway 44. The collision left traffic backed up for a short time while crews worked to clear the scene.
What Happened?
Emergency crews arrived at the scene along eastbound Highway 44 near Interstate 5 shortly after 5:10 p.m. on Thursday evening. Emergency personnel came upon five vehicles involved in the collision. Officials with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) have not yet determined the cause of the collision but released a statement saying the accident was a chain-reaction event. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol or distracted driving were a factor in this collision. The number two lane of Highway 44 was closed to through traffic for a short time following the crash while crews from the CHP collected evidence and tow trucks cleared the damaged vehicles from the highway.
Were There Injuries?
Yes. Sadly, a woman was pinned in her badly damaged vehicle. She was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment of traumatic injuries suffered as a result of the multi-vehicle collision.
Chain-Reaction Collision
Typically chain reaction collisions occur when two or more vehicles collide with each other in a series of rear-end accidents. These events generally occur due to the force of the initial rear-end collision sending the vehicle it hit into the vehicle in front of it. This type of collision may be caused by a single driver’s carelessness. Some other common reasons for chain-reaction collisions are:
- Distracted driving
- Driving under the influence
- Wet or slippery roads
- Poor visibility caused by fog
- Road rage.
