Redding Rollover Accident Causes Injuries
I’m Ed Smith, a Redding personal injury lawyer. Local police officers reported that multiple people were injured in a vehicle accident in Redding that happened on Thursday, April 19, 2018. Reports stated that the collision involved two vehicles and that one of the cars overturned as a result of the crash. The crash caused major traffic delays in Redding’s downtown area.
Collision Details
The accident was first reported by the Redding Police Department (RPD) at about 1:00 p.m. Officers said two vehicles, one grey, and one black sedan, collided at the intersection of California Street and Eureka Way in the downtown area. RPD officials said the two vehicles collided and the black sedan overturned. A police report stated that one vehicle had been driving north on California Street while the other had been driving south, also on California Street. When the cars met at the Eureka Way intersection, the front end of the grey sedan collided with the black sedan.
Response
As soon as they received a call notifying them about the crash, RPD sent emergency personnel to respond. Emergency responders reported that multiple people had been injured in the collision. However, the severity of the injuries remains unclear. Local reports stated that traffic in the downtown area was tied up till 2:00 p.m. as responders attended to injured individuals and workers cleaned the vehicle wreckage off of the roadway.
Investigation
RPD officers are investigating the cause of the accident. Police have not made any statement about whether or not drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the accident. While authorities have not yet determined what caused the crash, some common possible factors include things like distracted driving, speeding, traffic signal violations, faulty vehicle parts or broken traffic signals.
Rollover Crashes
Accidents that cause vehicles to roll are highly dangerous. Out of 4,304 injury-causing accidents that occurred in Redding between 2008-2017, only 182 involved an overturned vehicle. Although rollover accidents are one of Redding’s least common accident types, they are typically more severe than other types of crashes. Moreover, rollover accidents have caused fatal and/or severe injuries at about twice the average rate for Redding injury accidents in general.
