Redway Resident Fatally Injured During Collision on Highway 101
On Saturday, June 13, 2020, one person sadly lost her life during a vehicle accident that took place on Highway 101 in Humboldt County. The decedent has since been identified by officials as Nicole Lang, a 32-year-old woman from the small community of Redway. The vehicle driver and two other passengers were left with major injuries. The cause of this crash is still being investigated by California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Crash Details
The collision occurred at around 5:12 p.m. Lang was a passenger in a 1992 Honda Civic that had been heading north on 101 and had just passed the town of Redcrest. For reasons that police say they do not currently understand, the driver lost control of his vehicle. The Civic veered to the left and eventually crossed over the highway median. After traveling over the southbound side of the road, the vehicle traveled onto the highway shoulder and finally struck a tree.
Response
According to reports, staff from Rio Dell Fire, Cal-Fire, Scotia Fire, Humboldt County Sheriff Office, Redcrest Fire, and others assisted with responding to the accident.
Responders reaching the site of the collision discovered that all four occupants of the Civic were seriously hurt. Officials called for a Reach Air Ambulance to transport one of the individuals to a trauma center. Lang, the driver, and another passenger were driven via ground ambulance to a nearby hospital. According to information from medical officials, Lang sadly succumbed to her injuries while in hospital custody.
