Negligent Driver at Elk Grove Boulevard Intersection Injures Several People
A negligent driver reportedly caused a major accident in Elk Grove after running a red light on April 14. The Elk Grove Police Department reported that the accident happened shortly after 9:00 in the evening. It occurred at the intersection of Elk Grove and Franklin boulevards when the driver of a passenger vehicle ran through the red light and crashed into another car, which then experienced a rollover.
Additional Information About the Rollover Accident
The vehicle that was struck rolled and contained a driver and a minor child, who were both injured in the crash. The drivers of both vehicles, as well as the minor, were transported to a hospital for medical evaluation and treatment of their injuries. Firefighters were required to extricate one person from their vehicle.
A Negligent Driver Can Cause a Rollover
Rollovers can occur for the following reasons, among others:
- Some vehicles such as vans, light trucks, and SUVs have a higher center of gravity, which makes them more prone to rollover. Traveling around a corner at high speed or being struck by a negligent driver can contribute to a rollover accident.
- Lack of signs for a sharp curve can lead to a rollover, which would show fault by the government entity in charge.
- An aggressive driver can cause a rollover. This type of negligent driver can tailgate, crowd another vehicle or even force it off the road. When the tires of the other driver’s vehicle hit gravel or soft dirt, it can unbalance the car, leading to a rollover.
Because of the many possible reasons for a rollover caused by a negligent driver, it is important for the vehicle to be retained as evidence. In this way, our investigators can check the vehicle to see if the accident was caused by a negligent manufacturer or government entity.
Dangers of a Rollover Accident
Rollovers are among the most dangerous types of accidents and often result in serious injuries and fatalities. A rollover caused by a negligent driver can be more dangerous than most other types of accidents because:
- Occupants of the vehicle are more apt to be ejected from a rollover, which carries a high risk of fatalities. There are two ways in which an ejection can happen during a rollover. The first is if the vehicle occupants are not using seat restraints. The second way is if the seat belts the occupants are wearing have a defect that makes it break or let go, resulting in the occupant being ejected.
- Vehicle occupants often suffer more injuries during a rollover. This is because they are tossed around as the vehicle rolls. Abdominal trauma from the seatbelts, broken bones, and traumatic brain injuries can occur.
- The vehicle may experience roof crush, which can cause traumatic injuries to the head, spine, and neck. Although auto manufacturers are required to construct vehicles that can handle 3.5 times the car’s weight to avoid roof crush, not all of them abide by this law because of the increased cost.
