Drivers Warned of Cracked Windshields on Interstate 80 in Roseville
Motorists are warned to use caution when driving near Interstate 80 and Highway 65 in Roseville. Several drivers have reported incidents of road hazards, including shattered windows and cracked windshields, after traveling through that particular location in Placer County over the weekend.
Residents Share Similar Experiences
Sacramento resident Arthur Androyna said he and his family were driving home Saturday from Roseville when something frightening occurred. He said while traveling westbound on Interstate 80, the back driver’s side passenger window suddenly shattered. He described it as like confetti of shards of glass hitting his child. Androyna later heard that other drivers shared similar experiences.
One after another, many drivers complained about vehicle damage in the same area in Roseville. Stephanie Barber was one of those drivers. She said the incident happened Sunday morning while driving westbound on Interstate 80 near Taylor Road. Barber said she heard a crack in her windshield as soon as she got on the freeway. She is frustrated because she just bought her brand-new vehicle the day before.
Other motorists said they have noticed more loose gravel and debris after the winter rain storms. A local auto repair body shop said customers have been going in to have their broken vehicle windows replaced.
Who is Responsible for the Damages?
Caltrans said they started getting phone calls about that stretch of highway a week earlier. Responding to the complaints, crews went out with sweepers to clear debris. However, Caltrans said they continued receiving complaints afterward, so teams will go out again to check the surface pavement.
If Caltrans determines that the bad roadways have caused damage to your vehicle, they will take the necessary steps to fix it. You can file a claim with Caltrans to repair your vehicle for up to $10,000 and report it to your district claims office.
To find the district claim office nearest you and get more information on how to file a claim, go to Caltrans’ website.
Caltrans recommends including as many details as possible, including the date and time the incident occurred and photos of the damage to your vehicle.
Dangerous Road Defects
Obeying the rules of the road does not always guarantee a safe journey. While you and other drivers exercise due care, accidents can still happen, resulting in severe injuries or even death. This is because the cause of traffic accidents is not limited to driver negligence. Dangerous road defects and road conditions can also be at fault.
Some common types of road defects include the following:
- Potholes
- Surface deterioration
- Cracking
- Edge failure
- Rutting
- Crazing
- Subsidence
